Alaska's great ice record is a river, not a lake. Since 1917 the Nenana Ice Classic has put the exact minute the Tanana River ice breaks up at Nenana on the books — every spring without a gap, kept honest by a jackpot riding on the answer.
Why only one page
That card is Alaska's whole list here, and that is on purpose. Few of Alaska's lakes carry long public ice-out records, and this site does not pad thin states: a lake or river gets a page only when at least five recorded years stand behind it. If more Alaskan records that clear that bar turn up, they will be added. See how the records are kept.
Late ice is unpredictable — no date on this page says the ice is safe.
